Greetings Tuskers and lurkers!
I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on hauling in low-sec, and in particular which race/ship would be best to go for if I start from scratch.
I am about to sell a miner which I also used as a hauler up until now. I was using a Minmatar Mammoth (easy to train and with a big cargo hold), but I found out the hard way that industrial like those are very exposed in low sec.

Do you guys think I should go for Caldari and train something like the Crane?
Or should I just stick with something cheap and easy to train? Like Mammoth or equivalent.

Now, you have 2 choices:
1) If you think my hauler could be set to blue in the not so distant future, then give me good advice.
2) If not, give me bad advice :D

Well m8 it kinda depends what stuff and how often you are gonna be hauling it around lowsec.
A normal industrial of any kind or race is at great risk in low sec due to its slow align time.
However with good scouting you can get any ship through many jumps, although the more you do this the more at risk you are.

If you are just thinking of moving small-med size ships into a new base of operations and training a character to do that then Gallente shine in this department with the Iteron5 being the queen IMHO of sub cap logistics.

If you are thinking of doing PI or POS setup operations deep in bandit country,or moving moderate amounts of high value cargo(like the loot from some faction fit ship you dropped in station before you got ganked-remember to do this:),then the Blockade runners excell in this role.

I personally use both an Itty5 or Viator depending on what im moving and where its going.

Any decent sized corp you may join in lowsec should have a Logistics backbone to supply members with ships and other equipment from a market hub,but there is allways a time when you need something "NOW" so its allways usefull to have an alt that can bring stuff in.
Depending on the ships you fly it can be usefull to train your alt to fly those ships as well (but without the support skills) as they can then pick up ships like BS and above from high sec and deliver them directly.

Viator/Crane/whatever the other races are are indeed king; warp, cloak, wait, jump, rinse and repeat.
